Digipack research

Digipacks are a type of CD packaging made out of card stock or other heavy paper or cardboard material. They are a stylish alternative to the jewel case and are a custom printed card packaging that can hold one or more CDs which are held in place with plastic trays which are glued into the digipak. CD DigiPacks are especially popular in the music industry for albums. They also give a product an expensive professional look and feel. Our current task for our media project is to create a digipack.

Digipacks hold huge responsibility for advertising their product, in this case the band and their album. Most do not include photographs of the artists, but photographs of the people in the storyline. The font is generally small and simple, and the colour of the fonts are mostly black or white. Our digipack follows similar conventions with the use of black and white fonts however the font is not small.
Our group has started to consider the our digipack, we have at the moment decided a simpe approach would be best for our video. On the digipack we do not have a picture of the band but instead we have a picture of a red heart and a skull in between. This makes it different from what normal rock videos are like. We are starting to look at various album artwork to draw inspiration and this is how we came up with the idea of the skull.
This is how a digipack looks:
