After researching and looking at different rock artists and their music videos, I have developed an understanding of things that are present in most of this genres music videos. One of the most common things that appear is that the music videos appear to be usually quite dark, but with high contrast levels, to give the video a dark and edgy tone. The music videos are usually incredibly performance based, shots covering the whole band playing, yet focusing mainly on the front vocalist. In our first scene we have used something similar with the band playing but our main focus was on the lead singer.
The story lines of rock music are usually dark, to match the dark sound of the music, and dark meaning of the lyrics. There are also a variety of close ups used in most rock music videos and the makeup done in a way that enhanced their facial features for example the use of black eye liner. The performance it's self usually has a dark tone to it, the performers are usually dressed in completely in black, appearing as stereotypical rock. Some people who listen to it are usually inspired from it and have dark makeup and multiple piercings. For our music video we did not stick to such stereotypes to make it unique and not so stereotypical. Like most music videos we had a strong focus on the band.
There is usually a drum or guitar solo in a rock song. We wanted to make the music video fun and felt that rock embodies this the most. Rock uses a natural and more raw sound in the sense that other genres usually edit the music.
