In the beginning of the music video there are mostly establishing shots of the location and area. The beginning of this music video is just a brief introduction to the song and there are no lyrics at this point. Soon in the video we see the band in an apartment before showing a medium close up of the lead singer walking down a road. There is a use of a fast cutting rate is used together with these establishing shots to give the audience a sense of the location which is an urban area of new york. When the lead singer eventually starts singing a tracking shot is used from behind. The camera is also tracking the fence in the background however it appears that the lead singer is walking at a faster pace than the camera. This shows his power and control when he walks at this fast pace however after a few seconds the camera tracks at his speed. Throughout the music video the main focus of the video is greatly on the lead singer leaving all of the other members of the band out. However when the band appear in the video together they are seen in the apartment where they are performing the song. The song is deep in meaning and it ends with an over the shoulder shot of the lead singer looking into the distance which gets the audience to think about the song even after the video has finished playing.
For our production we used the idea of this by focusing mostly on the lead singer however to change it we used the other three members from the four and gave them all a chance to be the lead singer throughout the music video. We decided to use the band mainly in the beginning to open the music video and in the choruses of the song. We are thinking of using a narrative which uses actors for the storyline and the band. We used regular cuts from the storyline to the band performing as the Script do in their video.
